Second pic you may consider being back a little further. It seems like it was to close for the camera to focus. Also were you using a digital zoom?

Im still trying to figure the camera out. Tank shots are tough for me anyway.

One of the best suggestions I can make is to buy a tripod. I picked a full size one at a camera store for $12.
