Storing RO water - Brute can leeching something

I recently bought a 44gal brute trashcan to store RO water in, its the grey can that is approved for contact with food. I washed it out with RO water, scrubbed it with papertowels, and rinsed it again. I let it dry, then filled it about 3/4 the way with fresh RO. The next day i tested the TDS and it was 4ppm. Hmm odd, checked the water out of the RO/DI unit - 0ppm. Left the water and the next day it was 7ppm. 3 days later 25ppm.

Will the leeching stop? Do i need to clean it better?

Wow, It could be that the plastic is still breathing or releasing toxins from when it was molded. Not sure how long that takes, does it still have a strong new plastic smell?

The only thing I could think of to rinse it with would e a mixture of either vinegar and water, or bleach and water.

No plastic smell, i made sure of that before i bought it. I probably looked pretty funny sticking my head into all the trashcans and taking big whiffs.

I guess i'll give it another wash with vinegar and water since thats easier to clean out.

Was the lid on the tank?

RO/DI water is very reactive and can react with air.

It was off for the filling, on for the storage time.
