I need some help troubleshooting a problem with one of my Stream 6100s. I woke up this morning to find the driver squealing and the pump dead. What should I do to troubleshoot it and what is the most probable failure mechanism?

Remove the propeller and drive unit. Check that calcium deposits have not built up or sand has not entered the well. The most common cause are stuck brake shoes from particulate, holding the propeller turn the magnet, the brake shoes should smoothly ratchet in and out. Also, the lower bushing piece should be frree of the magnet. Frequently deposits stick the magnetic rotor to this lower piece, this is most common when using a two part additive and kalkwasser or when the pump is run at lower power for long periods of time.

Well? Did it work? It is something very simple what ever it is so don't get to worked up about it. The driver alarm cuts power to the pump to protect it and gives it a kick every 10seconds hoping to restart, so it will seem dead but it is very difficult to ruin one of these pumps, it almost takes a deliberate act. The only other things to check but this is rare, cracked magnet, swollen top bushing (does it turn easily, this is rare now as the bushing plastic is modified to not take on water but a few years ago this was a problem on Tunze pumps), top bushing out of alignment, push in firmly.

Thanks alot Roger. I was walking out the door to work yesterday when I posted and didn't look at the pumps until last night. I had jumped to the conclusion that the driver was having an electrical problem, but you totally called it. The impeller was just not rotating because I had a little more Ca buildup inside the pump than I was expecting for the amount of time that I've had them. I really appreciate your help! :)
