Sump/Plumbing Help

InsideJoke

I've been thinking about adding a sump/refugium to my tank. A simple 10gallon tank sitting on the floor underneath the stand to my 20g long. The only problem is, I have no idea how to set it up, how to plumb it, or drill it. I dont plan on doing this til after Christmas and I was wondering if anyone here could give me a hand with any part of it and give me a good direction to look for in terms of equipment.

There are several members with experience in drilling glass. You might look into a hang-on-back (HOB) overflow. Then you could buy a basic 10G tank and just silicone some panels to control flow though your new sump. Here's a good page with lots of info about sumps.

Try to make it to COMAS meetings, there are lots of experienced reefers who can help and answer your questions...

I actually want to make it to the one on the 12th, but I think the fiance made plans for us to attend a Christmas party.

Are you planning on drilling the 20L or using an overflow box?

Here is another person recently who ask similar questions:

I've been thinking about drilling. I'm a little nervous about the HOB overflow losing siphon and one of the tanks overflowing. But I've considered it so I dont have to drill.
Part of the reason I was wanting to drill was to get rid of the Emperor 400 I have sitting on the back of the tank right now. It takes up a lot of room that I could use for some more lighting or something. But I guess a tube doesnt take up to much space.
I'll take a read through that thread.

A lot of people in the club have drilled successfully. If you post asking for direction to their success, you'll get lots of info....

I will. I'll take a look at overflow boxes though and see about how often they fail and such and prevent tank overflows.

I understand this is not what you are asking,

But if you had any thoughts of buying something already drilled and set up instead of drilling and buying plumbing OR buying an over flow box---

This is a heck of a deal If you are interested in upgrading:

If that was anything but a cube, I'd probably consider it. But I really like the look of long tanks
