I bought a new tank which isn't set up yet. I'm only going to be able to buy one piece at a time. My new tank is 72" X 18"X 22" which is 125 gallons.

I'm new to the hobby so what's the best kind of sump to get. The store said they could make me one for $250 is there anything I should have them do to make is special. I'm going to put the sump in the basement while the tank is on the main floor.

Thanks,
Mark

That is a pretty fair deal depending on the sump size, what its made out of, and if it has seperate sections for equipment and to trap bubbles caused by your drains.

I have a berlin type Acrylic sump. So the water drains into the sump, goes into my drip tray(without bio balls) and then fals into the acvtual sump itself.
Then there is a baffle about 5 inches high so water runs over that from under the drip tray. Then the water goes over my heater, and I have my kimmer pump that picks up water and snds it to my skimmer(external). Then the other pump is my return pump.

Overall I have about 30 galons of water in it and it can hold a total volumn of about 60.

I would go over some designs, if yo are going to go reef you might want to think ahead and have a refugium added. I would want to only do it once.
