Sun Coral: Picture and a couple ??s

No, I remember them drifting with the water current.

I'm sorry. I should have said that they aren't positively bouyant. In other words, they don't pop to the surface like a piece of styrofoam.

I've had by black and orange sun corals for about 4 days and they haven't opened yet. I've fed them everyday since I got them it will open a lil then close up they look pretty healthy but is it true they can take about a week to open? I have 130 watts PC.

Those look very healthy. Congratulations! My micrantha didn't look anywhere near that good when I got it.

Just keep at it, they're a little nervous. Mine still like to close up if there hasn't been a smell of food in the water for a while. Constant tiny feedings help. It also helps to get them on a schedule of feeding the same time every day. About 45 mins. before you really want to feed them, take a turkey baster and spray the polyps with some "fish juice" (something smelly and nasty and fishy that'll get their attention). They'll take a while to come out and investigate. Then you can get them some food.

If they don't come out, just keep spraying a little bit everyday. They get hungry eventually.

Will do, I just fed them and the black one came out a tiny bit. I fed them some ESU invert target food mixed with brine shrimp and I chop up some fresh shrimp from the market and mix it all together. I feed my zoas, bubble coral and frogspawn it. The bubble took down a nice size chunk of shrimp.

Here's what I did to start.

The first two days I physically removed the coral to a tupperware with tank water and I fed it in there. I kept this floating in the tank to keep the temperature even, and I left the coral in the tupperware for more than 30 mins before putting it back in the tank. I stirred the water often to keep the food moving around in hopes of the coral being most responsive.

After that, like has been mentioned, I would put some food juice in the water about a half hour or more before I fed them. I just put it in the tank, didn't squirt it on them. Then, turn off my highest power pump and spot fed the polyps.

Now they seem to be a little opened before I start this, but they still don't fully open until after the food juice has been added.

Best,
-A
