So why Roes Marine is selling thers for $40 a polyp. Is this the real Duncan?

Probably the same reason Walmart sells items less than their competitors...they buy in bulk and pass the savings to their customers.

I have one of each of the different polyps he is selling ordered. I'll let you know what they look like next week.

I didn't think about it before I ordered - but Roe's sound like they are collected wild - not sure how they got them. I always try not to order anything wild especially if it shouldn't be imported. Too late now, so I will try to propagate and distribute it after the fact.

I'm really interested to see how the Duncans from Roes turn out. I was thinking of getting a 3 polyp frag from them. Please keep us informed on how they turn out .

Here are a few I picked up from Roe. He is a great guy so I picked up a larger piece for me and these couple of nice smaller frags for a few others that live in my area.
I am keeping mine under 14K 400 watters. About 24-30" deep in my tank. They seem to have smaller poylps but I feel sure they will look much better after they grow a little bit. Seen mine getting food from the fish feeding already.

A single poylp frag and a double poylp frag for the locals

My smaller piece is actually 5 poylps.
All seem to look sort green but color changes in all tanks so we will see how it looks in 3-4 months from now

On another note if it like my Dendro and likes larger food, I feed it a silver side cut in half one time. It seemed happy for like 4 days over that. Here is a nice pic of it pulling it in

Here is a better pic of the 5 poylp one. I have a new camera and I can't seem to get as clear a picture with it
Here is from my older camera
Just walked in the other room and took a picture. I love that camera

I got the ones from Roe's. They were fresh cut and over the period of a few days, one never opened fully and pulled something similar to STN. It is now a skeleton. One polyp looks great. The third has had some tissue peel off and has started dwindling (it looked great the first day), so I am holding my breath.

His guarantee is just arrive alive, and I'd have to pay shipping again even if he credited me - so, I think I will not bother (expensive mistake).

Roe's are also not as colorful as the pics I've seen of the ORAs.
I would hold out for those if I were you!

Actually, the website says they have a 5 day guarantee from the time it ships, but you do have to pick up the shipping so I see your point.

You are right - although I still don't know if it is worth it to try again. The third polyp (all were singles) looks really good, so I don't think it could be anything I did. Does anyone know if they should be healed prior to shipping and/or did anyone else have an issue with the single polyps?

Thanks!

It seems like Roe's is a chop shop. They get large specimens, chop them up, and resell them right away.

Not a very good practice.

plaz, I hope they do something for you.

how fast do these grow

They can grow very fast. I've seen 20 new adult polyps in less than 10 months, with many buds still developing.
I started with 1 and a half polyps last Feb.

I got a nice single poylp that did just fine fo rme, the double is looking good and my personal 5 poylp head had one head that was showing part of a skeleton but I only paid for 4 heads anyway so I was pleased to see me be able to save it and now I have 5 total heads. All are eating cyclopeeze and PE mysis without any effort on my part at all. I just feed the tank and done.
As for the shipping before it is healed, I never really like that practice but for the price (1/3) what others here on RC want for the same species) I will deal with a fresh cut frag
Hope the other poylp does well, like zoa's you only need one to start with.
Also I have tried to get a good pic of mine but it seems they reflect so much light that you can not see the poylps good. I will practice a few shots with the camera in different modes to get a good pic of mine
Sorry for your issues, that is some of the problems with ON-line anything, you never really get to watch what you are buying first.

I would never ship this coral "fresh cut", actually I like to try and avoid shipping anything "fresh cut" these days.
I have sold a few here on RC and have had them cut for at least two weeks. It only took a week to skin over and stabilize.

Thanks Randy! I think he would probably replace them if I paid for shipping (seemed nice on the phone). However, it turns out that my LFS can get me a Duncan from ORA and will trade for some of my Acro frags for at least part of the cost. I'd rather go that route due to the hardiness and color. The one that did not STN looks fine and is eating. One of the other two is still hanging on by a thread (literally). I don't like loosing money. However, after seeing pics of the ORA ones, I am really looking forward to getting one of those! Hopefully this one polyp and the ORAs will grow quickly and eventually I'll get it back by selling the frags.

Dav, I'm glad all of yours are doing well! When mine were cut it looked like the top of the polyp area was scraped on two - which may have made the difference.
