I have a rather new 90 gallon tank. It has cycled and all my levels are stable but I am getting sick of the air leak in my marineland C-360 that I just cant fix. Plus a sump is so much better.
I am going to be switching to a sump system, I actually made the sump tonight. I still need to get a return pump and plumbing but I am in no rush.
The sump design is pretty much like this one

My questions are:
How deep should the sand be in the sump?
Should I take it all out of my cycled tank, or should new sand with a handfull or two of sand from my aquarium then just let it cycle before I hook it up.
Same thing with the bio balls, should I take the bio balls out of my canister or start with new?
Do I need to let my sump cycle for a while like the tank did before I hook them together?
Is the tank going to cycle all over again when the switch happens.
