T5 ballast question

Kernel Panic

Are there any ballasts for the F80T5HO bulbs? I know one can use the ice caps, but I do not want to overdrive the bulbs. If there are none available to normally drive the bulbs, then I may end up going with F54T5HO bulbs.

Those ballasts on reefgeek are for the 54w bulbs. The SLS Tek 80w retrofit lists the Icecap 430 or 660 as the ballast. I looked on the Icecap website and there is no dedicated ballast for the 80w bulbs. Also no triad or ballastwise for the 80w.

Anyone else with thoughts?

Did you try aqualuxlighting. I believe they use the workhorse 7 to drive 2 of the 80 watts.

That looks better. Probably won't overdrive as much as the Icecap 430. I still wish there was a dedicated ballast for the 80w bulbs like for the 54w and 39w.

workhorse ballasts will run whatever you have for t5ho, and other bulbs.

even a w5 will run up to 120w of t5ho. there probably is a bulb number limit, regardless of total watts used, but one w7 will easily power 2 80w t5ho. theres i think 220w available.

and workhorse ballasts will not prematurely kill t5ho bulbs like some said here on RC..

i have 15 months on my w5 driven 3x39 t5ho retro. no dark circles at the ends of the bulbs yet

Thanks, I don't want to prematurely kill T5's on an Icecap. That's why I started this thread. It's good to know a workhorse will maintain bulb life.

Back a while there was a thread about T5 ballast test. Ice cap66 did produce a little more par, but used 3 times the electricity to do it. Go to the FULHAM website for wiring diagrams. A worke horse 5 can be wired to run almost any combination of bulbs up to its max capacity.
