T5 Retrofit Kit in Canopy

I just bought the red oak version of this stand http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod_Display.cfm?pcatid=11425&N=2004+113764
and i was wondering if i bought a T5 retro kit if i could just straight install it in the canopy or if a hood with stand legs would fit in there.

Either will potentially work. A retro kit is designed to be mounted inside a canopy with a cord to the hot external ballast. The retrofits have exposed bulbs and so water splash needs to be avoided...through 1) extra height (non-standard tall canopy), 2) glass or acrylic tops or shields or 3) careful living.

The complete fixtures that come with (or have as an option) legs can sometimes be a bit wider than the inside of the canopy so get very specific measurements before buying (ask me how I know...)
