Tank Alteration Question

Quick question, is it possible to remove the black rim that is at the top of most tanks? If so, how would one go about doing this?

If not, is there a paint that can be used to "stain" it a different color or just the same black in order to re-finish it?

That holds it together so the tank won't bow with pressure. I would recommend a No.

Thats what I thought, what would be the best paint for re-painting it?

If you're just painting the outside of the trim, I don't think it would make a big difference what type of paint you use. JMO
