Tank leaning forward....

Hi everyone, been lurking for awhile. I've set up a 90gal that is leaning slightly forward. I'd say the bubble is 1/8 of an inch across the line on a level. Problem is that I have all the water and rock in it.....best thing to do is tear it all down and put some foam underneath it?

That would probably be the safest thing to do, but there are other ways. You might be able to hammer wedges, splints, or something under the base of the stand to get it perfectly level. It doesn't sound like it is leaning too far. Also, how long has this tank been set up?

It's only been setup for 24hrs. I've already started draining it so I'm just gonna do it the right way. Where does everyone get the "foam" or insulation to put under their stands?

Actually, the proper way to set up the tank is to put the foam sheet between the stand and the tank. I'll be honest, I don't have my tank set up "properly". I'm not sure where they get it but I'm sure some place like Lowes or Home Depot would carry. Give Paul (pwhitby) a PM and he would be able to tell you where he got his. Plus he is out of Oklahoma City and not the Tulsa area, so he could give you better directions.

You're doing the right thing by redoing it, and a good thing you checked the alignment. I'd be afraid of future leaks, if not a crack.

Don't rely on the foam to correct the tilt. If you use foam, the foam should go under the entire tank between the tank and the stand. If you put foam or something soft under the stand to make it level, the weight of your tank will compress the foam.

Use something very strong and uncompressible to put under the legs of your stand to make your stand level, then go from there.

I always have been nervous about stands that have little feet because they concentrate all of the tank's weight on 4 points, so I ran two 2 x 8" underneath my stand to spread its weight.

Good luck!

Im with George.

Get the stand perfect with composite shims.
The foam can be purchased from Home Depot in the insulation section, its bright pink.
