Really appreciate it but also a big kudos to the Reefkeeping crew for all the hard work they put into the new mag.
Ryan, it is rather simple. Turn off all pumps (including powerheads) and fans or anything that may cause a ripple on the surface. Let the tank settle for a couple of minutes and shoot from a lower vantage point and focus on the mirror not the corals themselves. One key point to remember is to focus on a spot that has the most washout (brightest light or reflections of corals or rock) and the camera should automatically adjust light levels to prevent washouts. This is typically at the top of the tank anyway.

That is absolutely the best tank that I have ever seen! I went to your site and looked at your full tank pics and the growth and coloration from February of last year until your latest pics is unbelievable! Congratulations, it is well deserved!

Hey John, great tank; that isthe best home tank I have seen to date;even better than best LFS around here in Houston; you mentioned that you get your coral frags from all over; I wanted to know if you could provide me farther information about aquiring corals from Sue Pruett being that I live in Texas and the fact that you aquire corals from her too. thank you

As always, looking good! Congrats on the Honors.
I can tell everyone here that John really has a great hand at what he's doing. Seeing his tanks in person is worth it if ever in the bay area.
I think John is one of few I could consider a Pro. at taking pictures of his beautiful reef.

Excellent web site and tank setup. I've been interested in downsizing from 150 to 120. Don't like the height on the 120 though. Now that I saw yours probably have one custom built 100 gal. Mainly interested in the depth.
Any reason why you don't have 2 overflows? How large is the overflow box? Would you change anything on that tank that you didn't think about before?
Finally, I liked that point about using Xenia for nutrient transport. I have a 58 gal tank with mostly soft corals, and 3 inch sandbed. Just use snails for algae control. One thing I noticed though is I'm harvesting the Xenia out of the tank the same way I'm harvesting Caulerpa. As a matter of fact, the Xenia grows on the caulerpa. The nice thing is there is no algae in the tank, I feed it like crazy and I'm not using a skimmer. Never connected the two until you mentioned that about the Xenia.
