This month we're taking a break from the norm and re-visiting a previous tank of the month from November 2000: David Playfair's.

More details can be found here or by clicking on the picture above.

Additionally, one of David's beautiful corals is featured on our cover:

Congratulations, David! Keep on reefing... :D

Inspiring Tank

Incredible tank, and informative description again. Not to boot Playfair's abillity to tell us a little bit about himself, while concentrating on his minireef tank and what has worked for him.

Very beautiful! I love the variety... Are you going to change your lighting when you overhaul your canopy?

Thanks,

Ryan

BTW, I notice that you don't have the Detroit area 'tacked' on your map. If you would like to expand your sphere of influence, I would love to help you out :).

Dave,
A well deserved second showing! Great job and maintenence. We should trade then you can get a pin in Washington State :)

Regards,
Kevin

Congratulations

Congratulations

Love the look. Between you and last months winner I have plenty of inspiration and ideas to use for my new 120. I like the maxi-jet in the overflow idea.

Great cover coral for Feb, kinda valentine themed with the reddish color and kinda heart shaped.... not that i usually go for that mushy stuff ;)

Awesome tank Playfair! I think i will be looking at it all day today :)

Excellent tank ... Very nice setup, very well planned and executed. Beautiful display, love the coral and the fish selection.

I agree, two pins in the state of Washington is more appropriate :)

I feel that is the most impressive tank I have ever seen. The mix of all corals (soft and hard) is unreal. Also, the time shots of the frags to coral heads is remarkable. I wish I could get my current tank this consistantly healthy.

Hell yea it's definitely a well deserved second showing. David, amazing job. Keep up the great work.

Thank you to everyone for the kind words! :D
(Andrew- you're my new best friend!)

I feel like John Glenn getting his second space flight!
(3 years of reefing = 30 people-years)

The previous features are tough acts to follow, as are many of our fellow aquariums. I'm proud to be part this group, and honored to have my little ocean and it's progress recognized.

You Washington (and Detroit) guys- YOU'RE ON!
*n..e..e..d.....m..o..r..e.....p..i..n..s* :)

Ryan, no plans to change the current lighting, just re-epoxy and new reflectors, but you never know!

For those of you who haven't seen Dave's tank in person, it is truly something to behold. As amazing as the pictures are, they don't come close to doing it justice. It is both beautifully manicured and incredibly diverse. Having seen it several times, I can say it is one of my inspirations.

I've been thinking about upgrading my lighting but, after seeing your tank I think I'll stick it out for a while longer.

Awesome tank

Wow

Wow

That's it.... I'm never putting pics of my tank up!! I can't believe that's a 120! It looks HUGE!

Two tanks in a row that have totally humbled me. Great work!

As Stoli said, it's a real treat to see this tank in person, but you guys who think you've got reef envy now, imagine what it's like coming home from his place to your humble 90 that you thought just hours ago was great!

And a special wave to you guys sticking with 175's. Dave's tank certainly puts the you need higher watt bulbs argument to bed for me.

Great Job Dave.
