ok i had got 2 rbta's and they come from splits of mother, my question is i was told they are 5th and 6th gen splits, they do have a small white mark by the mouth, 1 with 5 lines the other with 6, would the line be from previous splits ? and thats how you tell the gen's on them ?

I doubt that the marking is how you tell the generation. My first has split into 2nd and 3rd gen, and although there are markings on the mouth, it it's just 2 lines or 3 lines.

I've never heard of the white striations indicating generational splits, but its a very compelling idea! It may not be completely accurate, but perhaps a good indicator nonetheless. I'm going to start paying attention to this in my rbtas and see if I notice any correlation.

figure kinda like tree's giving age by bands, jhentr, you said it has split 2 or 3 times and it does have 2 or 3 marks, in theory couldnt it be from the split, logic would go with once they split they will have a new marking from split, but then again i fix cars for a living not study biology

Will you post pictures please?
My GBTA has several small whitish striations on the oral disc as well. I would be interested to learn the significance of the markings, and be sure we're talking about the same thing.
