Test for Kalk Saturation?

Can you use any test kits to see if you are getting a saturation kalk solution from a kalk reactor? pH, Ca, Alk?

I read where Randy Holmes-Farley stated that "saturated limewater has a conductivity of about 10.3 mS/cm".

If you don't have a way to test for conductivity, can it be done any other way?

Thanks

Well, a pH meter can be used. You'd need to make a saturated lime solution as a reference. 1 tsp of lime in a quart of water should be more than enough. Then measure the difference between the reference and the kalk reactor effluent.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, I don't have a pH meter, just a test kit (doesn't go that high). I'll make a note to test if/when I can borrow one.

What do you have to have to test conductivity?

Well, you'd need a good conductivity meter, but I don't know of an inexpensive one with the right range.

You need a conductivity probe. It's more expensive than a pH meter, but can also be sued to measure seawater salinity very accurately.
