Awesome pictures, but conjured up memories of my one night dive in the keys, molasses reef IIRC. It seems cool, but I wouldn't really night dive for fun again, too dark, too low light, too limited visibility (I was also on a shallow reef on medium-high seas night). Thanks for sharing the pics though. Hawaii is definitely on my list for places to dive, probably after I dive the GBR, then Ras Muhammad in Egypt.

This is not a night dive in the normal sense. The spot where the Mantas show up gets frequented by at least 6 boats every night, with both, divers and snorklers. Everybody gets a very bright flashlight. The snorklers hang on a ring at the surface and shine their lights down. The divers sit on the bottom in a large circle and shine their lights up. This attracts a heavy concentration of plankton and the Mantas show up to eat and do their show. There where probably about 30 to 40 divers and and as many snorklers, and in only 30' of water it was never very dark. The Mantas come within inches from your head, sometimes touching you. The do barrel rolls and other acrobatic moves. It was more like a circus than a night dive. But the sheer size of these creatures is mind blowing.....
