I tried that (something like that) I drilled ten 1/4" holes. Im not sure about how much increase in flow though. Im going to do side by side comparison when I get the new props. Lutz gives great support on these things. His rotating mechanism should be out fairly soon.

You do know it would be fairly simple to make a rotating mount too right? ;)

I am working on one currently. As soon as I can a hold of some RC control rods I'm golden. :D

well after cleaning the basement i found 4 802's with magnets but broken impellers.. i think i am going to mod those.. gotta find a prop and a way to extend the propellers out.. if i use flex they wobble all over....

IF you use the flexible airline and dab it with some CA/super glue it will be as hard as a rock when it dries.

Only 1.28" ID? :eek1: About the only thing you could possibly fit in there would be a 1.25" propeller. No wonder there's not enough flow from it.

D, I know you don't care for Matt, but after modding his shroud they really do have awesome flow! I'm using 2 of them in my tank. Only thing I don't care about is how long they are. Great machine work though! The mounting hardware is great too, allows you to aim the pump diagonally and not just strait across the tank.

Have a look in my gallery at the photos of the 802 prop assembly, there are 3 photos of it, I started off the usual maxi jet mod way, by removing the fan blades on the standard impeller & making a slot for the prop to fit DON'T BOTHER!

I found out after much effort & chopping plastic away in my shed that you can take off the whole plastic part from the magnet (same with the micro jet & I presume ALL fixed shaft pumps) bonus, if only I knew that b4 I trashed 2 perfectly good impellers DOH!, this would mean that as long as you don't chop the strainer you could convert straight back to standard pump in seconds

The 802 shaft is so easy it's unreal I took a good piece of advice from the man himself Mr Maxi Jet mod man - our glorious thread starter - a Biro pen outer which slots straight on to the shaft with a tad of heat (after removing the whole plastic impellers part that is) I then inserted a small length of solid abs rod & then slid on the prop which fit perfectly, but you could easily sand any size to fit.

Any chance of some idea of this stopper idea for the AQ's please

Oh don't get me wrong I think his mill work is top notch. The thing that rubbed me wrong about Lutz was his claiming to a patent on this mod. That new propeller with the continuous screw-like form is also an idea and we on here suggested to him a while back to improve his design. Now to come back and tell us you're gonna file a patent on it is just well... Wrong IMO.

Does the AQ magnet not pull out at all when it's spinning in reverse? Even slightly?

'Doh' Lol Frunkster. I said before that the aquaclear impellers simply snapped apart w/o breaking anything...lol.

I am tinkering on the small AC pump today (Hi-Spec1000, 10, whatever you want to call it). I am noticing that before I said it was about 400gph, maybe a little above...but now...

My SEIO 620 has such a wider nozzle that the output velocity is very slow. The AC (with a nikko 3-blade prop from tower) starts out with a smaller output, but its flow is in a cone, not a beam like the SEIO. Its wider, much wider, and its velocity is much greater so that unlike the SEIO, its flow can actually reach the other end of a 36" long tank w/o a problem...not so with th SEIO.

I like it much better, FWIW, and I also tried restarting it 20x to see how it did on direction. It started every time in the same direction on its own...the right direction! When it started in the wrong direction, it pushed itself out of the pump about 3/4"...enough to stop spinning and reset itself spinning in the right direction. It never pushed itself out far enough to fall out, but just enough to change direction.

This pump seems to just need a shroud and thats it. I would say it makes more flow than a SEIO 620...thats for sure. Not bad for a 4.5 watt pump (and with the prop mod its prolly like 3 watts).

a pen body.. huh that works.. so gotta find a good large plastic prop. either a three blade or double dual blade... ok so i knew the impellers came off. they all prope and wore out and fell off mine. i am glad i kept four pumps without impellers... gotta come up with a really good shroud and propeller for them so they dont look out of place in the tank...

I finally got my Lutz mod kits to work right with my older mj pumps.
I just had to silicone the prop on the shaft. For some reason the magnet would vibrate inside the shaft. I could not figure where the noise was coming from until the second shaft came apart. Then I realized the noise was the magnet slot hitting the shaft and bouncing back over and over until the shaft exploded in to about three pieces. silicone the prop on the shaft. So theirs the mod for the maxi mod kit (i also sanded down the shaft just to make sure the shaft was not hitting becacause the shaft was a bigger dia than the magnet)

someone wanted to see the lutz kit.

Not as far as I can see D, maybe a tad but I don't think so,

I will try implement a stop again soon, bit snowed under at the mo to much to do & not enough time or energy, but plenty of enthusiasm (to many late nights chopping pumps up)

hahnmeister - so you are saying that the small model AQ & the 901 both turn in the same direction constantly but the 802 does not, is that correct? b4 I destroy something else :D

& yes strangely enough I had a thought that you had posted about the prop not needing the plastic bit (directly after pulling the mangled plastic from the magnet lol) but what has it been with this thread & the others? - like 250+ pages
:eek2: could be a novella & when are you going to compile the book D :D

Does the magnet fit really tight on the fixed shaft of the aquaclears? I just can't understand why it wouldn't pop out when it goes in reverse. If it is making all that flow - backwards - you'd think that it would have enough force to chuck that little tiny magnet out. (I think someone posted a pic of a piece of LR being lifted with a big version of one of these...)

well just modded an 802 with dual 1.75 duma props.. crazy flow.. three times the 1200 with one.. BUT.. getting it to spin is a PITA. took me forever to actyally get it to spin. no sure if the pump is worn out or what.. it just sits there and goes back and forth. never spinning.. in or out of the water.. on all three pumps i have.. the fourth is burnt out.. so.. i dont know what that is about. wouldnt be too big a prop would it.

No way the prop is too big. These pumps have power to spare. Check to see if the fixed shaft fits easily into the carbon fiber i d plastic tubing that the impeller is mounted on. I had to drill out the CF tubing so that it wouldn't bind up on the fixed Aqua Clear shaft.

its 2 steps and their very tricky 1. you first have to reach in your pocket. 2. Send your money to lutz. then presto 1 weak later their it is in the mail along with the rest of the kit. not quiet do it yourself. its the lazy mans DIY.

mount looks nice but suction cups always fail sooner or later ... i wouldn't risk it
