The Incredible, Fraggable Elegance!

So maybe they'll go from the "Don't Buy" list to the fragging list. :) Today I received two elegance corals from thecaptivereef. I talked to Mike about the Elegance he was bringing in from Australia - and he mentioned he is fragging them, I'd never heard of such a thing. He said he had two that were doing well if I could wait a week or two and I'm glad I did! After just an hour or so - they are doing great. He said his collector frags them frequently and considers them some of Australia's hardiest.

I had two elegance corals when I left San Francisco 6+ years ago, gave them away figuring I'd get more when I got to AZ, then the "plague" hit. So hopefully these do well, and hopefully now that Australia is exporting them, they don't over collect. I doubt they will, they are probably a little more responsible towards protecting their reefs.

Here are the pix, I'll try to update this from time to time.

Just an update - they are doing incredible. I bought two because I wanted to make sure one would make it - but its obvious that they'll be fine. I decided to sell one to a friend, these guys are pretty large. The green middle is stunning and the purple tips are starting to really show. You can see it from across the house.

Good to see you, Sang. I hope all is well with you!

Nice pickups David....are they in the 210 with the SPS or in a holding tank right now? BTW how did the frags I sent you hold up in shipping? I assume they were alright or I would have heard back from you?:D

Nice pics Fliger.

I've known of elegances being fragged for a few years now actually. I've seen a few of the babies locally and just got one for myself about a month ago. Check out Steve Tyree's AE coral list.

Congrats on the succesful frag session of those beauties Fliger. Let us know how they do in the long term. I've been thinking of getting one or two aussie elegance after reading about how hardy they are.

I fragged mine a year or so ago. Steven Pro took half to his Greenhouse. It is a favorite coral of his, and I know he is working on getting a large number going for the hobby.

Hey Fliger, good post. I've always wondered if and how elegance corals could be fragged. I bought one at Ocean Arts before they closed their doors and it has about tripled in size since I got it 4 months ago. I'm not sure if mine is an Aussie or not, but it is pink tipped.
