I've seen a few and indeed they are nice, especially as they age, the belly takes on a strong color like the aquatic online photo.

we have one where i work, and have had a few come in. They are expensive though we had a 6" one that was $200+.

and I was under the impression they were african.

they are nice but for the money id rather have a regular blue tang and something else.

Paracanthurus hepatus. It's the same one as used to be on the Burgess Marine Fish Atlas. Yellow belly, red/black dorsal fin. From coast of africa. Blue tangs are not found in the red sea.

They run about 100 bucks.

hi thats great that u know more than me i love the fact i learn more about the fish i would like to know were to buy one plz tell me any thing more u known about the fish.

It'll probably be tough to find one; they arent imported to the US all that often. One of the RC sponsers (Phishybusiness.com) had one not too long ago; might contant them and see if he could get another one. Otherwise, marincenter.com gets them sometimes (though they tend to be overpriced) and maybe check out the Divers Den on liveaquaria.com once in a while.

Kenya is the largest exporter of those tangs. Ask around about Kenya orders. SDC imports from their regularly. http://www.seadwelling.com/ Find a LFS that deals with them, as they are wholesale only.

I'll leave it up to the tang cops to advise you it's not suitable for a 75 gallon tank, new or old.

I'm lucky here in S. Florida in that one of the local LFS regularly gets African fish, so they have these all the time. They charge a little more, maybe $10-$20 more than a normal blue tang. I have a small one, you can barely tell he's a yellow-belly still.
