The one hour sump

We took our 40gal Tank and drilled it out for an external pump. Used PVC board for the inside and EPDM weather-seal (marine and automotive) to create the baffles. Over all not bad for just under one hours work. The neat thing about doing it this way is you can change the configuration of it by simply moving the pieces around. They are just friction fit, yet hard to move around, so they should stay in place.

ahh that may work for a rubbermaid stock tank.

where'd you get the EPDM weather-seal and how much was it?

Ahh, good ideas! Stock tank! Those seals "should" keep a cut peice of acrylic in place.

Time for a new project!

seems like it would work perfectly.
thanks for posting Joe!one more question is the seal rubber or plastic just wondering if it would leach anything into the water.

I was just wondering if it would leach anything into the water.

The product is pictured and says it is mage of EPDM rubber..

Sounds iffey...see here...

The addition or omission of other ingredients can also affect performance of synthetic rubbers for pond lining: for example, certain curing compounds and fillers commonly used in Butyl and EPDM rubber can be toxic to aquatic life and must not be used in fish-safe formulations.

I need to build a new sump and am leaning towards a rubbermaid stock tank for cost reasons (sorry geo!). what did you guys have in mind?...
