This is no good

I just watching my tank cycling yesterday night when I heard a couple of clicking sounds....faint, can only hear it near the tank.

The sound was like a small 1/4 inch rubble hitting against the glass tank.

The next morning, I heard another similar click.

I was so new to me and I started to glance through the tank to see what was going on.

Guess what, right in front of me, I saw 2 oval like eyes popping out of a 1/4 inch diameter hole in the LR ! The eyes are constantly rotating and I saw 2 splitting feelers. I think that is going to be a small mantis after looking through the pictures. I would keep it if it is a good fella but I think it is going to destroy the lives in the tank and now I cannot even think of transferring the fish and corals from my current tank.

I know its location now, and either I destroy it now or let it get away.

Problem:
How to get rid of it ?

1) Take the LR out and dig it out of its hole and flush it away

2) Take out the LR and rinse it in freshwater

3) Leave it there and hope that it starves to death in 10 days

I need suggestions and help please.

Thank in advance.

Do not try to starve him. It will not work. YOu know where he is, get the LR out and flush it with fresh water and a turkey baster. You will get a good look at him and maybe a change of heart or you could just flush him.

First thing you want to do is start feeding it, a well fed mantis has no need to go and hunt for food. A small piece of fish/shrimp on a skewer will probably do the trick.

The problem is pulling the rock without it bailing out the back door. If it feels safe and is well fed your odds are better.

I rinsed the LRs in freshwater for like 10 minutes.....flushed out a ermmm......crab first

........then a lobster........hmmm lobster :)

And no mantis shrimp

I heard faint clicking sounds and if there is no mantis, do crabs or lobsters make them ?

Please tell me it is the lobsters !!!!!

My mantis that I just found looks kind of like a lobster. Check out some searches and see what pictures you can find. Mantis shrimp are definitely an odd looking creature.

lol, I think you are right EzRida206, I think it is the pistol shrimp. But can't identify its species, it has only one big claw, I think it broke the other one.

pistol shrimp start out REALLY REALLY small heh. The size of ghost shrimp. I did not know they grow to be bigger :D I cant wait to see mine all grown up hehe =)
