Three days of darkness.

I'm currently fighting dinoflagellates and would like to turn off the lights for 72 hours. Anyone have any good or bad experience with SPS/LPS and a 72 hour blackout?

having the same isue, had the light off for 3 days, sps seem fine, just turned the light on today!

I doubt anything will happen, as when they are shipped from indonesia and so on, they are 2-3 days in darkness aswerll.. and like i said, just did the same thing, and everything is fine!

Your LPS's will be fine.

Your SPS's may become a bit pale, while others may die.

If you have actinics, in which it seems you do. Use those as an alternative.

3 days is quite long.

DF is no laughing matter, goodluck with the process.

Here's a few of our locals with the battle.

Thanks for your input! I had seen your thread last week. These dinos are definitely no fun.

You can imagine - I have a dozen questions, but I'll keep it down to two. :)

Did the procedure seem to help? Did you feed any fish, you might have, during the blackout?

what i did was, the first 3 days i dosed something to kill algea, when i turned on the light today i sucked up moste of it.. there is still a little here and there, but not compared to before. I will continue to dose my algeaEX treatment. The light today dident seem to get the dino´s to grow like it usaly does.. So the plan is to keep dosing algeaex for around 4 weeks, and keep having 3 days with no light each week.. that my plan..

and i dident feed the fish for those days, but then again i dont have any that realy need feeding offen.

so to sum it up, yes it seemed to help, but still a lot of work to do, before i am free of it.

I have done a 5 day light out period with no long term damage, tank at the time had some SPS, LPS and anemones.
