Hi there! Just when I thought that my new 3-4" squamosa was doing really well, and was very happy with where he was placed (up towards the top of my tank in a "bowl" shaped rock), and I thought he was laying down some byssal threads, I find him this morning at the bottom of my tank (right side up, thankfully). This was when I first got up, and all of my 10K lights had just come on, his mantle was fully extended, and he looked like he was doing just fine. So I'm assuming he didn't damage himself or anything. But is this a sign that he is not happy in the spot that I put him? Or could it be he's trying to move around just slightly, and "falling off the ledge"? He's been completely healthy IMO, fully extended mantle, great reaction to shadows and everything.
Also, I have another question. As I was reading through some really old posts on this site last night, I came across one about byssal threads. Now when I first put the clam into my tank the other day, I noticed at the byssal opening, that there is a little bit of "flesh?" that is hanging out. I can only assume that this is might be some old byssal threads, that were cut? Will this be a problem at all, or will it release these threads and lay down some new ones once it settles into it's favorite location? How long does it usually take?
