I have both varieties of the watermelon chalice, pink and red. Well, as always they're small pieces. I'd like to get them to grow. Is there any secret to fast growth? They're under T-5 bulbs and I feed them a few times a week. In addition, they've got moderate flow. Thanks for any advice you can give!

I've had 2 pieces of the pink watermelon. Both have died. I think the first one was fragged then sold me too soon, it didn't have time to heal.

The second one did great for about 6 months. I got it about the size of a dime then it got to about quarter size. Then suddenly it slowly died. I didn't change anything. It stayed in the same place in my tank. Actually I have cut off the dying part and now the piece of it that I have left is about the size a of pea. There are no mouths left so I'm not sure if it'll make it. I figure that pea size is worth trying to save considering if I were to buy one that size it'd probably cost $100. :)

I know they like all different strenghts of light. Hugo had his about 18-24 inches under 400 watt mh's. Another person I know has his under 3.5 ft under 400 watt mh's. Both of them have success keeping them. I know you can feed them but not necessary.
