Anyone have any idea what could be causing tissue recession on this coral? I am also not certain of the id of it. What if anything can I do to treat it.

Bad chemistry, bad light or bad flow... any one of those can cuse tissue recession. More info is needed...

Chemistry is ok. Light is MH 175W and VHO actinics. Coral is near the top. Flow in the whole tank is medium to high.

I can't tell what type of coral it is from the picture. Looks like a chalice of some sort. If it's a montipora you could have parasitic nudibranchs. In any case you can try an iodine dip such as lugols and move the coral to perhaps less light and a different flow.
