To Wave 2K or not to Wave 2K?

Serioulsy, I need real feedback on these. I HATE powerheads and cables and i want them out of my 240 gallon SPS and LPS tank. I dont want a closed loop (tried It) I dont want Stream's or dump buckets.

I am looking at 2 or 3 of the center units. The maker sent me some mounting photos and the video on the site looks great. BUT, Anybody actually have a center unit in a larger tank?

i love the wave 2k. it gives a natural movement in my tank. i have a 13inch center unit in my 55 and the waves are so good they splash out a little. nothing some cut glass splash guards could not fix. i think people are scared to try it because it is a simply device. but i like it and am glad i tried it. i will never go back to powerheads.

I have had my Wave2k for a year now and love it. I have a 180 and keep the unit at one end and also have my sps on that end and softies on the other and works great. I have tried sps at the opposite end and just not quite enough flow but if you look at the specs he says 1 or 2 depending on type of corals for that size tank.

Thanks for the info. Do you see increased salt creep at the tank top from the water sloshing around?

I am looking at 2 center units that will mount to the back of the tank and flow forward.
I am wanting to totally get rid of power heads.

Why not get a Tunze wave box?

Have you looked at the price of a wavebox? With 2 wave2k units you are getting close on price but you are going to get more turbulent water movement. I use that term because the wavebox wave looks really cool but seems to allow detrius to settle where as the alternating movement of the wave2k takes care of this. To answer your salt creep question I do notice this on the openings of my acrylic tank nearest to the unit but keep in my mind I mounted mine on one end and had him seal the side outlets so I have a lot more pressure coming out the front slots. post more if you have more questions I will be happy to answer the best I can.

I have had the center unit for the wave2k for 6 months on my last tank. It was too much maintenance with O-rings breaking. This was when the unit first came out.
Also, there was always salt creep getting to the unit with the motor dying out in the first 6 months. Maybe other people have better experience but not me.

Thanks for the added info. I dont want a wave box becuase if you see the photos of it working it just sloshes back and forth like a see saw. I like the movement of the 2k. Besides, i will have 2 of them that will work against each other so to speak.

I will have to get the motor mounted on top instead of on the back. I emailed the maker and asked how much room is needed above the tank but he hasnt gotten back yet.

Anything would be better than power heads.

Is it loud?

Would the corner unit be too much for a 29 gallon sps system?

Hey condair I don't think the motor is loud but have noticed from time to time depending on how you set the limits of the shaft inside it can make noise. Mine has been running for 1 year straight and no motor failure. I will say the initial pulley was a little week due to thin belt and small teeth but that has been corrected.

Sorry haven't used or seen a corner unit to be able to help you.

I'm, gonna do it. I'll order 1 first and try it. Heck, at $215.00 thats cheap if it doesnt work. i have made bigger mistakes ($$) before but thats the life of a reefer.

recieved an email from the maker. it needs 6 inches above the tank for the top mount to fit.

OK finally got around to instaling two wave2K's in my 250. Just for info my tank is 30 x 30 x 60. I have Euro bracing.

In order to install I used the vertical mount option. Both units were mounted on the rear long wall, equally spaced.

The only short coming are the instructions. They are lacking but Mike is just a phone call away. And he bends over backwards to help.

As they say the proof is in the pudding and this is a very fine system. Most complains center around noise and the unit does make some but if it is to much, something is not adjusted right.

One unit was perfectly set up and very quiet. About the same noise level as my cooling fans. The other was noisy but adjusts out.

I would give it a 9 out of 10 for value, a 8 out of 10 for instructions and a 10 out of 10 for function. My only complait about function is that I wish they had a deeper model (maybe 22 inches). Then I would have a 16 inch and a 22 inch to eliminate any voids in coverage.

Just on a side note, after installing both units I blew off all my rock. The units kept everything suspended until my filters could deal with it. Great benefit!

Oh, all of my guys really love the surf with the ebb and flow

Sweet. my top mount center unit will be here Tuesday. my tank is 30 in tall but only 18in deep flow should be good.

yes it does make a bit of noise. i do wish they made a cover to go over the mount because thats where the noise is. i have adjusted and still get the noise. but oh well, what doesnt make noise these days that works well?

If you have a sand bed you ight want to consider the sand deflector option. You are pretty close.
