Might be starting to reproduce. Some will get holes like that which end up being little frags. Could also be a worm nibbling on it. Check at night with a flashlight to see if you find anything.

On one side theres about a 1" line going across. It's almost like it's going around the entire cap. I'll look tonight for worms. Thanks

Sounds like reproducing to me. They can take a month or 2 when doing it this way, at least from what I've read. Mine drops babies from the "tips".

You can frag it yourself if you want to. If you have other coral, you'll want to frag it out of the water, but they are easy to frag (do a search for how to). The tricky part is getting the frags to attach to a rock / frag plug. I used rubber bands last time. Took about 2 weeks for the babies to attach to the rock and was a little tricky to get the rubber band not too tight but not too lose either. There are some other methods as well, but that's what I did. :)

something is chewing on it, I've had toadstools for many years and never had that problem until recently with my new system. Is not a reproducing issue mine has been doing it for a while and can't figure out what's doing the damage. I'm also looking for an expert on the subject on this forum but no luck so far.

I can't find anything that's chewing on it at all. It looks like it's going all the way around the cap and there is a new stump growing in one of the peices

is it possible that your water is too clean? have your nitrates been 0 for an extended period of time? My thought is that perhaps there isn't enough food for its size so it is therefore shedding part if itself?

this is just a wild guess and not based on any personal or informed experience
