I have had a neon green toadstool in my tank for 3-4 weeks now. About a day after placing it in my tank it was opening up nicely with some decent extension of polyps.
I took the past week off from work and had time to do some extensive water changes that I had been meaning to do to try to get nitrates down.
After the water changes the toadstool has closed up and for the past 3 days has not extended any polyps.
I also have a torch, frogspawn, candy cane and 2 mushrooms that are all fine and business as usual.
I did some searches and read that toadstools will do this when they need a water change, wondering if the nutrient shift in the tank could cause it to retract like this? I would almost think that lower nutrients would cause it to extend more not less.
while it is un-extended the green coloration has increased since the water changes which was one of the reasons I wanted to do some heavy changes to get nutrients down (better color in corals)
I also added a clown goby around the same time, which has now become more active and likes to sit on the toadstool, could that be upsetting the coral?
