What product do you have that I can use to put between my R/O Resevior and Kalk Reactor? How does it compare with say a LItermeter or is there any comparison.

I need something that can dose very small amounts up to 5 gallons a day, keeping in mind that it will be attached to a kalk reactor.

I've read a lot about your products in general on RC and know you have the osmoregulator type thing ? - but am not sure what would best serve my needs.

Appreciate any advice/opinions you can provide.

Thanks,
Chris

We really don't have a product for this application. We make a complete set for Kalkwasser dispensing, it is an Osmolator and a Calcium Dispenser, but it is not suitable for fitting to other manufacturers Reactors or for use to control an RO unit. Itr is a different concept from the Litermeter. The Litermeter is a good unit however and I don't feel compelled to talk you out of it. The Osmolator is what I would prefer but you would have to make a clean start. Either way you will be satisfied Charles Mitsis is every bit a competent engineer and he makes a good product at Spectrapure. To understand more about the Osmolator type 3155 and for the Clacium Dispenser 5074 in the Search query at www.tunze.com.

So I would only need this unit instead of a dosing pump, top-off resevior and kalk reactor? How much does it run and who carries them?

Thanks,
Chris

You still need a reservoir, but the pump is included. Marine Depot might have some units remaining, all Tunze products are in short supply until they get some bugs out of production in germany. I hope to have more Osmolators in a couple weeks. The Calcium Dispenser on its own is not going to be a complete answer to your calcium needs unless your tank is very small, please review the manuals before you purchase. If you have a very large tank it may not be appropriate as you will evaporate alot of water per day. I would suggest this system alone for up to 45 gallons and as a useful adjunct up to 200gals. For top off capability with the delivered pump it is good up to 250gals, maybe more than you will have to look into a switched socket kit and larger pump. Basically, a sensor detects even the slightest change in water level and tops off the tank, in the process it mixes and dispenses a small amount of kalkwasser. On a system between 30 and 120gallons, it requires weekly repleneshment of 2-4teaspoons of kalkwasser per 5-7gals of top off water.

sorry to perist, but if I got the Calcium Dispenser Kit 68 That would allow for dosing of kalkwasser and something to replace evaporation right? does it replace with full strength kalkwasser, or something more dilute as it appears that previously you stated that the osmomat pump can't take the lime deposit abuse. I'm not necessarily looking for sky rocket high calcium levels, but typically I drip kalk for my replacement water currently--maybe 1 gall a day or so.

It will dispense a saturated solution, the reaction is occuring in a sealed vesicle, the pump is isolated from the kalkwasser in this way. The kalkwasser is full strength but it is not a white liquid containing powder or precipitates. It is only a saturated solution. Be careful with the terms, Osmomat is item 5024 used for in tank situations, Osmolator is article 3155 used in sump or in a Tunze Comline Filter kit, don't mix these up when placing an order. The small amounts dispensed rarely have any impact on pH and you can vary the dose of powder added to the unit to compensate as needed. Kalkwasser is never foolproof, this is a good method to use a good additive, safer than most drip methods which suffer from clogged lines and occasional goof ups. The use of kalkwasser is not going to destroy the pump either, it simply shortens the life and voids the warranty, that is all, a normal 2-3 year life is reduced to 6-18months that is all and this vary with concentration, the shortest life is caused by exposing the pump to a lime slurry.

One last question, any special brackets needed to attach to a sump which is actually a glass aquarium with a typical plastic lip. You know, like the standard perfecto or something.

With the delivered system, if your sump is new and clean you can install the set with silicon, it is neat and more or less permanent this way. If your sump has small trim like on a typical 10-30gallon aquarium the included parts will accomodate this. If your sump has the large trim usually seen on 55gal and up you may need up up to 3 3000.244 sets, it is possible to do it with one though, it all depends on how you want to installl it.
