i have a few acros that for many different reasons have had some stn, about half the acro is dead, should i leave the acro together or should i trim off the dead stem and branches and refrag?

I think you should trim them also. It's always seemed to me that corals don't like to grow over themselves nearly as fast as they heal from fragging.

Trim and soak in iodine dip for a good 5-15 minutes.

Iodine helps them heal and not continue to RTN.

You can pick up the iodine from Walmart or a Target.

Comes in a huge 16oz bottle - 32oz bottle for 3-4 bucks.

Beats the kent stuff by a long shot. Same concentration, if anything the Kents is 1:2 water and the Walmart bottle is 1:2.5

Is dipping the entire coral in revive or TMPCC effective at stopping STN? Sometmes I can't cut off the STN'd base w/o really messing things up.

It can be. I had a few pieces that I saved by dipping. It doesn'y always work. I did loose a Stylophora 1 time, but I think I waited to long to take action and by then it was to late.

That would stress the coral out even more.

I've never heard of anyone dipping in revive to heal the corals.

ReVive is only used to kill parasites or hitch-hikers. Unless I read the label wrong, I've never heard about using it as a medicinal remedy.

Just frag it, would you rather lose the entire colony?

Or

Make a mess of the colony and save it?

Besides, you can just sell or give away those frags and help it thrive.

Goodluck, young buck!

waxy is not wrong! Revive and the rest of them are for flat worm removal, not sure they remove redbugs. Why stress them more? trim and put back were it was or slightly lower not higher.

I'm wondering if we assume the iodine dip kills whats causing the STN then maybe fragging the coral wouldn't be necessary?

Fragging it is a final resort.

Dipping it isn't always guaranteed, while fragging it has better chances.

Do both, what else do you have to lose besides the coral.

I've dipped STN pieces in TMPCC and it has stopped it before. With no ill affects. Sometimes thats all it takes. I have never used Revive so I can't say anything about that. Not just once I've easily done it 5-6 times, and it has worked. If there is any AEFW eggs make sure you scrape them off.

Will try an experiment. Frag one branch, then dip the colony and the branch and see how they each fare!
