Anyone know where I can get a small true perc locally?

Have been to the usual places, several jacks, byerlys and no luck.

Might be something I have to order, but wanted to find out bf I do.

Thanks,

Becky :)

you can check out pet land...they sell saltwater fish now...they are pretty cheap too $10 off saltwater fish and they all have a 10 day gaurntee...or aquarium adventure have some im sure but they are kinda expensive there

Petland has perculas. Only thing is they said they're all mixed in one tank, juveniles and adults, true and false.

How do I tell juvenile true from false?

Thanks

its difficult with juvies; the tell tale sign is the number of spines on the dorsal fin. but their juvies .. so the spines are small and sometimes not completely developed, and their moving around, making it even more difficult ...

typically trues have more black, but the black usually doesn't develope in until they're older

i think your only logical indicator is to use the shade of orange. its a very rough guess, but better than reaching in the tank blind. trues usually are a more vibrant orange.

if you want to be more accurate, then you'd be better served ordering from internet, or maybe phishy can set you up and special order you one?

The Eye is usually another good indication.
On a false perc the eye seems so be just a black dot where on the true perc that black dot is more of a pupil with an orange iris.

I can tell you from experience that Tropicorium in lower Michigan always has nice True Percs... They captive raise their own and usually have imports. Thats if your up for a little road trip. :)

usually have them at a bunch of different ages... bonus is being able to check out their setup too! they can also show you what the parents look like since they are on site as well :)
