Trumpets wont grow????

So I have had the same 4 head trumpet coral for 8 months. They have nto grown at all. One head has gotten a little larger but they will not multiple? Why? All params are good and I spot feed them and the rest of my LPS 2-3 time a week. I have brought a 3 head acan frag that was eaten to the skelton to a 20 head piece in 5 months to show my care for the tank.

From what I tried, the bright green with thin skeleton is most resistant and low light tolerant, cold pale green with thin skeleton likes light. Both grow fast, in a month - two the difference should be visible. The bicolor (green inside, brown outside) with thick skeleton grows much slower, likes light too.

I'm keeping mine in relatively low flow (the polyps flesh is not distorted by flow), up flow from heaters, plain mushrooms and yellow polyps. In well-fed tank no target feeding was necessary.

If you already tried to change trumpet's positioning in different places of the tank - up and down, closer or farther from the flow - I am lost too, should already multiply to the ball-shaped colony.

Ive had a clump of the bicolor in a middle flow area right in the middle of the tank in full light for almost 2 years. I just split it into 3 equal parts all the size of the original piece. I never really spot feed I just turn off the pumps and dust the tank with frozen brine and rotifers at night about once a month (when I feed my brain too). Note that they dont really bud new heads so much as they pinch off in the middle to make one head into two. Are any of yours pinching off? It also took some time for mine to get comfortable before it strarted splitting.

Sometimes stress can make corals multiply. The rational here is that if there are more polyps the odds of surviving the stressor increase. Unfortunately, this isnt too healthy for the corals, but it does work. Mine were being encroached by GSP and every head on the outside split.

Hello
Somewhat off topic, But I really would appreciate some advice.
I Purchased a trumpet today, 5 head florescent green.
One of the heads is not as healthy as the rest of them.
I only noticed this when I finally placed it in my display.
When I look at it with a magnifying glass, I notice a small hole in the side of it with something that protrudes like a feather duster, only rapidly in & out of the hole ?

Any idea what this is, and should I dip it in an lugouls solution /RO/Di water.

Any advice would be appreciated !!!

I have the bi color, brown out/ green in. They won't grow for nothing, granted I havn't waited forever, but in 6 mo no noticable differance.

Do the bi colored ones eat? Ive never seen feeders on it, but I have seen them on my solid light green ones, and they eat like pigs.

Fan shaped - could be live barnacle, or if 1 or 3 tentacles, checking surface around them - don't remember name, but I have a lot of them on one of my Christmas tree rocks, so far the were harmless, just occupying the holes.

Thanks for the reply

I think that it is a barnacle. After burning the midnight oil last night on the forums, I found some info. on them.

Listed in the "Odd's & End's" section.
The trumpet head is slightly odd looking where the hole is, compared to the other heads, causing me to think "What's Up ?"
After spending some time with a magnifying glass, I notice it's not as bad as I thought. This my first LPS & I did not know what to expect, let alone something waving at me from a hole in it

I guess that it's a rather odd hitch hiker, & I hope that it doe's well in the display.

Thanks Again

I have the same problem with my neon green trumpets, I had them middle to top of my tank under 216w T5 so I moved to lower spot, hopefully I will see improvement.

My neon green trumpets haven't really grown at all in the 2 months that I have got them. Maybe a bit fatter but no new polyps or anything. I'm thinking I may need to feed them.

I can't wait to have them grow into a dense thick green colony

in my experience they grow extremely slowly without regular feedings. all of them have feeder tentacles, look at night. id recommend just leaving it alone and feeding it for a month or so and see if you see some new mouths develop.
