Tuning a Euro-Reef RS250

I hooked up my new ER RS250 last night leaving the Air Valve and Stand Pipe wide open as per the instructions. Is there any easy way to figure out the right air mixture and stand pipe setup? I played around with it for about a half hour this morning and had the air valve and stand piple about half closed. If I went one way or the other there was a gulping affect where the water in the skimmer would drop quickly.

Leave the air open or better yet, remove the air valve. Run the stand pipe so the bubbles break ~ 1/3 - 1/2 way up the cup.

Perfect, I'll give that a shot. I left the valve wide open and tried playing with the water level but there was the gulping affect. I'll try this now.
