Hello...my 6080 is stuck and i just want to be sure about what to do. I am certain that the previous time this happened the impellar assembly easily came out and i was able to scrape the coraline algae out of the assembly and it worked well after. This time the assembly wont come out and i am not sure if it is stuck because of the coraline algae or if something is wrong. So far i have used some lime juice in the assembly hoping to loosen the part up. Can anyone confirm this procedure before i break the thing?

If you are in the US you will need to send it to me. You could try soaking it in straight white vinegar for a day but it should just pull out and if it doesn't it needs to be drilled out and remachined.

Hello Rodger....so if it doesnt pull out easily after soaking, i shouldnt get ****ed; but send it to you. What are the procedures for this? and how long is the turnaround time? Im wondering if this is a chronic problem that needs preventive measures before getting stuck. My tank is SPS dominated with a high level of calcium. What do you recommend as a regular interval between use for maintenance in a sps dominated tank. I am at the end of a 2 month waiting list for more stream pumps but at the great cost, i need them to be more reliable and enduring.

They need to be cleaned at least every 3 months in heavy calcium loads. In normal levels of 10-12 KH and 380-400ppm Ca they can go 6 months or more but if you have a high photosynthetic activity increasing pH and keep supersaturated levels it needs to be done much more often. This is the case with any pump on the market as inside a pump heat and vacuum degass CO2 and raise the pH causing precipitation, due to the tighter tolerances of the Stream it just is more noticable that this is happening, they lock up faster. The Electronic Streams are better in one regard, they have an alarm that sounds as soon as a problem starts and the pump shuts off. Also, the drive unit was changed late last summer to be more self cleaning but it isn't impervious in the excessive levels. Turnaround for a stuck drive unit is usually 48hrs.

Thanks Rodger...i will soak first then plan to send it to you should i need to. Are there any other costs involved assuming shipping charge is my responsibilty? I guess i could find all the info at the website?
