Maybe I should have clarified "this." I know a lot of people are dosing kalk one way or another.
Specifically what I'm asking is, can I use an auto top-off like the Tunze system, that does not use a continous low rate dosing pump, to feed a kalk reactor? Part 2 of the question, in this type of scenario, is the motor-driven stirrer or mixing pump present in a kalk reactor better than simple container of kalk mix that has the topoff water pumped through it, like the Tunze kalk dispenser.

ok, let me be more specific then

Kalk Reactor W/ Auto Top Off ?
for topoff, I use an Tunze Osmolator, this thing is rock solid. the osmolator pumps water into the kalk reactor and automatically replaces the exact right amount of water.
that solve the "can it be done?"
second part continues or in increments, does it make a different?
why should it?
you still pumping the same amount of dosing into the tank.
people like to use dosing pumps not because of is easier or better, they mainly use it for safety reasons, aka not having a float valve get stuck, water is less likely, but with kalk is just a question of time.
tunze osmolator is "better" than a dosing pump in the sense that it doesn't have float valve, and has other safety features, so is safe and on top of that no "adjustments" are needed like with a dosing pump
now part 2
in short tunze dispenser vs kalk reactor

Osmolator questions
rvitko, tunze rep, answer you
I really can't answer that, the Osmolator turns on every time the water level drops about 1mm and it dispenses usually a couple cups of water at a time. Certainly a mixing reactor will make more of a slurry than a solution so it will be stronger and I know people use the Osmolator with the MRC reactor, my opinion is kalk is not a good calcium supplement and I use it only to supplement my Calcium Reactor so the little Tunze unit suits me fine, I just want it to precipitate some phosphates and stabilize my pH and KH.
what that means is you can either use a reactor or the dispensor
tunze dispensor is good for a slight strength dosing, and helps with ph and a bit with phosphates.
kalk reactor has a stirrer that keeps the solution at optimum strength thus you get more solution into the tank
hope that help
