Turning generator off

So I plan on turning my generator off at around 1:00 am and then back on before I go to work @ 7:00. Will the tank be ok for that time of length it will be off
 
Yes, over the summer my 55 went 5 days with jsut a powerhead during the upgrade, so since itll stay relatively warm, id say youre good to go
 
i would assume it would be ok for 6hrs but make sure secure ur generator listening to the police scanner lots of town are getting reports of generator being stolen
 
do you have any battery power equpment or ups...water movement ? just curious . when i run my generator I charge my battery and when its off i run out the batteries on a powerhead and air pump , just to give the generator a break , or give your neighbors a break. I run a ups , but any method to keep from water being stagnent is a plus for me . good luck franky . you will be fine . it is frustrating . you can run without power for a while . just the sensitive sps become more sensitive and tend to brown out .
 
Thanks bro. No ups ill go dark for a few hours and run again in the am a little brown is ok they should bounce back. I just hope they don't just flat out die. On the plus side maybe that one little cyano patch will finally go away lmao
 
I would never let a tank go without water movement for that long. Oxygen deprivation is the biggest killer of fish in a power outage. Honestly, run the generator full time. Why take the chance?
 
Running dark now, power went out at 6:40pm. Neighbors say this is the first time in 6 years we've gone dark. Somebody up the road hit a pole, its not even weather related. Go figure. This is why you should stay off the roads - you're f'ing it up for other people !!! Lol

Running a battery airstone courtesy of KRAZE. Bumped the house up to 80 all day and its only 75 now so keeping the ambient temp up is a plus. Tank was cranked at 84 degrees and has a shitton of blankets on it (nearly 15) with a spot for ventilation. Tank is stable in temp, I may luck out if I get power sometime tomorrow.

We still have running water at least so I filled up the tub for flushes and cleaning dishes in case we lose not only power but also water.

i didnt even shut mine off to fill it up w gas ....my tank survived better than me . screw the neighbors . I am saving the reef ! police didnt want to deal with telling people to shut off generators .
 
Unfortunately it's a tiny little 1000 watt generator with a gas tank the size of soda can lol I have to fill it every two hours so running all night not really an option unless I camp out filling it all night
 
Any issues running it all night or till it runs out of fuel... Just filled mine up.. Should last 4 ish hours... I will be up at 6 to refill..

Good or bad idea?

bad idea , generator voltage spikes when the gas runs out and not good for the motor or running a load while shutting down , not to be a downer but its not good to do to any of your equipment or generator .
my lights are starting to flicker ....I thought i made it ...????
 
My lights are also flickering...I have a genny...but would be worried about running it dry during the night. Could a bat operated pump provide enough oxygen during the night? I may just wake up every 4 hours to top off tank if needed..

I chose the wakeup method, like posted before , its harder to rebuild . i think overnight if prepped well for heat and some gas exchange and minimal movement will be ok so you can sleep some , just get the generator up first thing and get that water moving , i dont like to see my sump stagnent either .
 
Ya ill do the camp out method...just while I'm at work is going to be tough as I believe it only has a 6 hour run time

you got no power and you still got RC..does the wife ever get you without fish on the brain ..lol..relax. better said than done . i know .
 
Not too crazy bout the camp out method ill run it till about 1:00 and then start it back about 6:00 hopefully everything should be fine if not more shopping for new frags lol
