Hi, just wondering what are the requirments for turtle weed- Chlorodesmis fastigata ? Lighting, strong aeration, feeding? Plus, this is compatible with anemones, and is it true it can help control nitrate and algae?
Hmm, I'm so surprised no one has responded to this thread yet! I just want to clarify, you want info for turtle weed (sometimes called maiden's hair I think?) and not turtle grass, Thalassia testudinum, right?
I would think the basic rules that apply to all the macros and plant life should be good as it is a green macroalgae. Decent light.. at least 2wpg of daylight flavor and preferably more. Nutrients.. if you have fish and you feed them it should get by on something. I only encourage messing with adding nutrients or anything of the kind when you have lots and lots of plant life in the tank. Strong aeration might be helpful if you have a lot of it in the main display tank and want to avoid pH issues from heavy photosynthetic activity.
Its true that all macro's can help to control algae and nitrates as they uptake extra nutrients in your water before the algae can get to it. Thats the idea at least, and it works in most tanks. I dont have any experience with Chlorodesmis myself so I cant say how good it really is at being a nutrient sink. Also.. not sure about its compatibility with anemones. (?)
Turtle grass is a little more demanding in the light and feeding department as far as I know. Lemme know if that's the stuff you were wanted to use afterall.
Thankx for the info... my tank is fish only, I planned to put only 2 maiden's hair (it's very fine green grass attached to a live rock?) on the nearest or top of the tank, so the lights would be directly hitting it. Can you give me an idea of what kind of nutrients should be added? Is this easier to keep compare to BTA?
