I bought a pair of the above mentioned goby; however, one was already in bad shape once I purchased it. It was breathing heavily etc. Normal signs of stress or sickness. I was hoping this was nothing, but it still perished within an hour (!!). The other is doing fine. How do I buy another one knowing the sex difference? The other that died was larger, does this mean anything? Any help asap would be more than appreciated!

I'm sorry to hear your fish died. I just bought two signal gobies myself. I don't know how to sex them either. One is larger than the other and butts the smaller one with its head occassionally.
How is the remaining goby doing?

They are one of the fish that should be on the do not buy list - they will very rarely take prepared food - taking all of their food from sifting the substrate, and with a few exceptions I have heard of they always starve in captivity.

The remaining goby has been joined by a new one that I got from an established tank that was parted out. They are doign great and hooked up together. They are looking healthy. I keep a 30 gallon refugium attached to my 120. They are the omly ones that ar etruly sandsifting. They seem healthy.

My pair seem to graze the same area so I have begun impregnating the sand with some powdered cyclopeeze and spiru. Hopefully this will help them out a bit. They are truely fun to watch and I'd like to keep them healthy.
