Well I'm in chicago right now, and my mom tld me my damsles, that wer in my mantis tank, just died. I'm going to re-do the whole tank: new sand, water, and maybe some reeflights and some LR. Anyway, my friend, who's in Illinois, told me he saw a small mantis in a pet shop nearby :D, He said it was all red, anyone know what kind? I saw a picture of an All red mantis , smasher, in a book called "Coral Seas". But in the book it was Unidentified :(. Can anyone tell me what kind(s) it could be? Thank you!!

There are several species of stomatopod that have a red morph. In fact, the majority of gonodactylids that come from below about 15 meters are red. Possible species would include Gonodactyluaceus glabrous, Gonodactylellus affinis, Echinosquilla guerini, or Chorisquilla excavata. All of these are from the Indo-Pacific. However, the most likely suspect is a Neogonodactylus wennerae female. Probably half of the females of this species brought up in cultured live rock from Florida are red or reddish brown. If you keep them in broad spectrum, bright light, most will turn green after a molt or two.
