ULNS Salt for SPS

I just switched from Reef Crystals to TM Pro Reef for the very reason that you are asking. I did my first 44 gal water change last night with it. Prior to the switch, My calcium was through the roof and so was my alk.. My Bali Green Slimer has been having a dificult time due to the high alk level (No Growth).. I experimented by shutting down my reactor for a week. As thethe Cal/ALK dropped, the Slimer started reacting better and showing growth tips.. I will hang on to Pro Reef for a while.. I used it in my first tank with great results. However, I am curious about TM Bio-Actif

To alter the high alk of Instant Ocean I was adding calcium chloride which helped drive the alk level down in the newly mixed saltwater to comply with the lower Alk levels.

Since I've ditched the whole dosing and ulns thing in place of GFO, Purigen and an orca Reeflo250 I just mix IO as I ever did and my SPS finally have fast growth and all their colors back again.

ive been using seachem reef salt for the last 2 yrs and have found nothing wrong with it and it worked out fairly well for me. It keeps the alk at around 7.5ish with borate accounted for. But i'll be switching to coralife salt after im done this bucket of SCRS as i want the alk level just a little higher so that i dont have to worry about it dipping below 7.

This is the problem I'm having with instant ocean. I might just try that with the IO that I have left then switch when its finished. I just tested IO and out of the bucket it was 11.2 dkh and 285 ppm Cal. Adding calcium chloride sounds like it would work, driving down the Alk while adding calcium as well..

I tried that experiment yesterday with the Instant Ocean. I added a little calcium chloride to a gallon of IO salt water. The IO tested at 11 dkh before I added it. After the calcium was added the calcium ppm went up but the Alk stayed the same. The plan didn't work...

I too switched from Reef Crystals to Tropic Marin Pro when I decided to go full blown Zeovit. I absolutely love it and plan to stick with it.

I really wanted to go the KZ Salt route, but it is really difficult to get a hold of, where i'm from!!! GL!

That's because the parameters weren't completely supersaturated and you mixed it in correctly. Unless both have reached the limit of solubility or you add too much calcium or alkalinity at once (or too quickly), you won't get any precipitation or lowering of values.

I don't see how the Dkh of the salt matters that much, considering how much people dose on a daily basis to maintain Dkh, it would make more sense to maintain a dosing scheme to achieve the Dkh you want.

Unless you are doing a huge water change it won't matter that much in my opinion.
Totally agree,

pretty silly that you have to worry about a salt mix with a specific Kh to some degree.
Kh drops daily anyway, so most hobbyist will be adding it daily.
Corals are hardly going to worry about a small change in KH.

I would be more worried about getting a quality salt that has low nutrients that fuels algae growth.
