ultra vs coloragrade=different lighting req?

Is it safe to say that the more colorful a clam is the higher its lighting requirements would be?

I understand that croceas are the most light demanding, but would an ultra crocea require more light than say a plain purple/light blue crocea? Same with maximas, would an ultra require more than a brown maxima?

The bright pigment protects the clam from uv rays. So, drabber pigment means less protection and probably greater depth in the ocean. However, since most online dealers and clam farmers keep differently colored clams under the same lighting system or at the same depth, it shouldn't matter anyway.

Yep...most people keep the drab clams right alongside the pretty ones. Even the brown maximas and dull croceas love being baked by the MH bulbs just as much as the pretty ones

Squamosas and Derasas are the ones that will fair well in less lighting, but even then they really do prefer strong lighting.

hmm i had my squamosa up in the mid of the tank and it jumped down off the rock and back onto the sand bed

Same here.....even when I tried keepign one under PCs.....they are sandbed clams
