We are trying to work out the schedule for PMASI. As it stands, this is what we have:

December 3rd ââ"šÂ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å“ Stan Dannemiller, DVM, MS presenting ââ"šÂ¬Ã‹Å“Do Fish Feel Pain?ââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢

January 28th ââ"šÂ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å“ Coral Propagation Workshop

February 25th ââ"šÂ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å“ Eric Borneman

March 18th ââ"šÂ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å“

April 22nd ââ"šÂ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å“

May 20th ââ"šÂ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å“

June 24th ââ"šÂ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å“ Anthony Calfo (unconfirmed)

July 22nd ââ"šÂ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å“

August 26th ââ"šÂ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å“

September 30th ââ"šÂ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å“ MACNA Review

But, we are looking for suggestions for speakers and workshops. We have kicked around a number of people: Charles Mazel (coral coloration expert), George Weber/GEO (acrylic design and fabrication), Sally Boggs (fish breeding), Adam Blundell, and Scott Fellman. Is there anyone in particular you all want to hear from, either from the above list or your own idea? Or, are there any particular topics you would like to see discussed?

I am working on my automation setup and could possibly put on some type of presentation later in the year. I imagine it would be more of a "look what I did" rather than a "heres how to do it" type of talk.

Sugestions:

Calcium reactor clinic

Water parameters testing and maintenance clinic. This could cover proper water testing and supplimentation and the different target parameteres and how they affect our livestock.

Maybe some kind of DIY workshop or project that group members can design and build. Skimmers or reactors or something.

We could also discuss some of the electrical needs of our systems. Ground Probes, GFCI, Outlet strips, dedicated circuits, wattage and current draw, etc. This seems to be a large area of uncertainty with many group members. A few of us may be able to shed light on a lot of the common questions and misconceptions regarding electricity and our tanks.

I wouldn't mind some time of "hands on/in" meeting making our own fish food :) I am not too sure the Raddison would be happy about a bunch of blenders with fish parts though :D We could all meet at Steve's house j/k..........

Seriously, we could buy bulk Clams/Squid/Mussels/Selcon/Cyclo/ etc. and split up the mush of foods at the end of the meeting.

Would need a couple blenders and maybe a food vaccum machine.

Just a thought :)

I like all of those ideas-

What if we had a Zoanthid contest? Everyone who wanted to compete could bring in a small zoo frag, and then one person could take them all and put them in the same tank for a week or so, under the same lighting, take pictures, post them and we could all vote on our favorite. They could then be entered into the monthly raffle (or returned, whatever).

The raffle would bring in extra money for the group, or if the frags are returned the group could charge an entrance fee. The winner would also have bragging rights....

This competition could be done monthly, or quarterly with numerous types of corals. Eventually, if the competition became prestigious enough, other reef clubs may also want to participate and that could really bring in some donations.

I am not really into breeding (Yet) but I think Sally's presentation would be very interesting :)

Hello Mitch. I loved your presentation at MACNA. It was one of my favorites. I also understand you have spawned Euphyllia species at your zoo too. That would be really interesting to hear about as well.

Thanks Steven. I guess you were one of the twelve people that woke up at 8am to hear me! I've spawned E. glabrescens. One of my new projecrts is the SECORE (SExual COral REproduction) project. If you heard Dirk Peterson's talk at MACNA you know about it. If not, it's a project to achieve the grail of captive spawning and it's also a project to acheive success in settling out coral larvae. Dirk has collected coral spawn in Okinawa, got them to fertilize to make planulae and then settled them out in Holland, where he works. There are many kinks to be worked out but he collected 60,000 Acropora tenuis larvae and got over 50% to settle out. That's a potential of 30,000 colonies! Anyway, it's a good project and I've set up 4 new troughs to start it here. Hopefully we'll have some luck.

I ended up missing Dirk's presentation. He spoke right after me and I was out in the hall answering follow up questions and so on. But, I would really like to hear more about it. I will have to get the DVD.

I was going to suggest Joe Burger also. I would love to hear the specifics on his system and lighting. He has such an amazing tank.
