Upgrading lighting preps?

Hi, I finally payed for my new lighting. From 3 really crappy bulbs that look from wallmart because it was a fowlr to 8 54w t5Ã"šÃ‚´s. Everyone is telling me I will have an algae spike with the new setup. Is there anything I have to do before setting up the new lighting? Will my fish freak out? I have (2 xenias, 1 green starburst polyp, 1 cup coral pagoda, 1 rock with polyps I think itÃ"šÃ‚´s snake polyp, 1 assorted rock my mushrooms).
Please advise. Anything I must with the corals and deal with the algae spike.

You should acclimate your corals to the stronger light...If you do a search for light acclimation, you should come up with a ton of info.

I agree, acclimate your corals. Most people use multiple layers of screen.I couldn't tell you exactly how much to start with. One, for example, may start with 5 layers of screen and take one off per day. This will allow a little more light in per day and not bleach the coral. I'm not exactly sure how much you should start with. Hopefully someone else could chime in here.

Do you know which type of screen should I use, I mean what are they made of. Thanks for the info didnÃ"šÃ‚´t know I had to do this, IÃ"šÃ‚´m glad I asked.
