any pointers? Caliberated instrument with 7.0 and 10--have probe in tank--do I now adjust the screws again? what is the perfect ph for a reef tank? 8.4? currently at 8.08--please advise--need help--

Hey Bob,

Sounds like you did everything correctly. I usually calibrate mine in each solution twce before placing in the tank...helps to fine tune the reading a little bit (i.e., calibrate to 7, then 10, back to 7, back to 10).

Yep, 8.4 is considered "optimal"...but anywhere between 8.2 and 8.4 is good, and I don't get worried until its 8.0 or so. Sounds like you may need some buffer, kalk, or 2-part additive. How are you maintaing Ca and Alk? Also, I've had success raising pH by just cracking a window in my living room where the tank is to get rid of some CO2.

Are you powering it with a battery or the AC adapter? I purchased the AC adapter but found it useless as all my other equipment caused intereference that made the pH reading fluctuate wildly (every few seconds). It has worked flawlessly with the battery though.

HTH. :D

Chris:
Good hearing from you. I have it operating on an ac adaptor; what interference would trigger problems with the ph monitor--is that why it blinks? I'll get batteries today.

Re what am I used to maintain ca and alk--to be honest was purple up and everything was fine--got a few sps frags and decided I better take a closer look at my levels--also will test for same this afternoon--What do you use as a buffer--I can add this via my automatic top off system correct?

thanks piasono--also leathers are doing great

Hi everyone:
How is it that I added Reef Buffer, which allegedly raises the PH to 8.2 and now my PH monitor shows that the PH dropped from 8.3 to 7.60? I added the buffer per the express directions of the product and my tank is now one big cloud storn--the product indicates that same means that the tank is no ionically balanced--what the hell does that mean--I have to play with this and change water until everything evens out? There has to be an easier way--please advise
