Utilitarian Brain tank?

Hi all!

I'm looking to setup a nice and simple reef only tank. My primary focus is a large brain or two, and maybe some lr and a 1-2" sandbed. Also looking at oxypora, anyone have some experience they'd like to share?

I was thinking:
10 gallon tank
MH lights (wattage?)
live rock
brain coral
skimmer?
powerhead?

Thats it, no fish, no inverts, maybe a few snails for cleanup.

Also, does the tank need to be cycled for the corals?

Sound good?

Thanks,

70 watt Metal Halide but not needed as the corals you want to keep can be kept under PC's but this way you don't shoot yourself in the foot if you ever want to *** a clam or something. Skimmer would not be needed if you keep up on water changes reguarly since there is really nothing to polute the water with the exception of the initial live rock die off. I would have a powerhead in the tank to help move the water around so it it not stagnant. Live rock is a must as it will help keep the water chemistry more in line but for how many lbs. is all up to you. Yes the tank needs to be cycled before you add corals. What are ou going to run for filtration just a HOB power filter? If so you can mod part of it into a mini refugium.

I was hoping the skimmer would eliminate the need for an hob or sump, but if it's wise, i can always throw a bucnh of macros in the back/sides no problem.
