UV Sterilizer

I am thinking about adding a UV sterilize to my tank. My plan would be to add it inline, after my phosban reactor. Currently my phosban reactor is T'd from from my sumps return pump. I may put a MJ 400 to run just the phosban/UV and allow for the extra return to go back into the tank. I have a couple of questions.

1. What size would you recommend for my 92g. Are they rated like skimmers, where most of the time the effeciency is highly overrated? I was thinking 9w, but that depends on the answer to this question.

2. What brand? I was thinking of the turbotwist.

3. Since the flow out of the phosban is pretty low (slow phosban roll), would I be better off going with a stronger light?

4. Anyone have a barely used one they are selling?

5. Would i be better off using Ozone?

Thanks
Dale

Husky, i am thinking of getting a phosban reactor and currently have a UV (CurrentUSA) so we are in reverse...lol. I really like the UV I have and i have it inline teeing from my return pump coming from my sump and the exit of the UV dumps back into my sump. I have a 15w which is good for my 72 and if i were you i would get the 25w current usa and it runs about 129 bucks at numerous websites including Premium Aquatics.

I had Ich in my tank almot from the begininning and between the UV, great water quality, and diverse food w/ vitamins and garlic i have had full recoveries on all fish infected and no deaths. My reef is only 3 months old and i think its doing very well. I like my UV and i think it contributes to the the reef like all the other components (fuge, skimmer, ph's, etc). If you are asking for a yes or no to the UV i would definately say yes as i think it DEFINATELY does more good than harm. Just my 0.02

O...how do you like your phosban reactor? have you seen results? did you have an algae problem that it fixed... details and some info on how you run it. also which model do u have?

Hey Ghost, thanks for the input on the UV sterilizer. I am probably going to get one. I was just curious what size, and if people are ok with the idea of a slow flow of 80gph through it.

As for my phosban reactor, I like it. My phosphates have been slowly going down in my new tank and my algae growth is definitely under control. I do attribute some of this to my clean up crew as well thought.

Starting in my last tank I noticed about a .25 readying for Po4, but this was also while algae was starting to take off so I suspect the true level was much higher if the algae was not taking the Po4 out of the water.

When I first put all my rock into the new tank I noticed a reading of like .50 but it has been slowly decreasing. I have not measured for a few weeks but it was down to somewhere in between .25 and .5 (i estimate .4). I suspect that it my old rocks were saturated, and are still spitting up crap to this day. I use to use tap water in my old tank until about 4 months ago, then I orderered and RODI. I also am a light feeder.

I was running phosban to a slight roll until last week. I decided to change out the media, but then realized I was out of phosban so I am using phosguard right now, which i had on hand. I will be switching back soon, but will probably order the bulk stuff from twopartsolution.

As for setup, I have my return pump t-d off to the tank and to the phosban reactor. The water goes through the reator and is dumped into one of my baffles right before the return chamber (just in case bubbles decide to flow).

Ask around but i think 25w would be a good size and 80gph is great because the slower it goes through the UV the more effective it is. I run mine thru it around 100gph (aprox) w/ a ball valve. do you have a twolittlefishes phosban reactor?

Ghst, yes I have the 2lf reactor. I think its the 150 model. I have not seen the Kent model, but the 2lf is good construction, includes a ball valve, can be used in sump, out of sump, and will hand on the side. Overall, dollar for dollar, this is one of the better quality items that I have bought.
