Vertex Illumina Club

Vertex recommends going one foot less than the length of your tank so a 5 foot 360 runs $3,485.99. It has a very good spread so it should take care of the 36" depth of your tank.

I don't think it will cover well for a 36" depth tank. My tank only has 22" depth and I have my light 4.5" above the water line and my impression is that it is not even enough. I have the SR200 model though.

The SR360 is much brighter, so far I cannot use it on full power yet (except the RB just because it is not as visible as the whites). Cannot produce PAR readings with my seneye meter though, it just doesn't read LEDs well, if at all.

My fixture firmware is at the latest 1974, after adding some RB Aux pads to it, does anyone know that do I still need to re-update the firmware with Complete option or I don't need to do it?

I believe I don't have to do the update, but just want to be sure. Thanks.

My 3ft SR360 will be here tomorrow and I wanted opinions on the UV & Red add-on pads. My tank isn't setup yet, but will be mixed. It's 25" tall. It seems like there's mixed reviews on the reds and that there may not be any benefit of either as far as photosynthesis is concerned within the coral.

What are the wavelengths of the Reds & the UVs?

If I understand the add-on process correctly, on the 3ft fixture I should have 5 spaces to add pads. Is this correct? If so, what would be anyone's recommendation to adding Red &/or UV?

Thanks in advance.

Troy

I believe the UV is around 410nm and the red is about 660nm.

One red and two UV are enough for your setup. Then you still have two spots for future color pads.

You are correct about the wavelengths however uv is defined by the wavelengths from 1 to 400 nm which is invisible and dangerous. The uv pads we refer to are actually voilet and not uv.

hey guys i bought the virtex illumina for the past 2 weeks and now i am 70% w 99%rb and 98% b....
but am feeling that my corals are some how loosing its color...
i dont knw if i am right, but i hope i am wrong and the perdiod of light is around 8hours w
AND 11 hours a bit blue...

8 hours is short in my opinion. Best thing to do is look at the average day lenght of some tropical or near equatorial islands/countries, sun is high more than 10 hours daily.

BTW - which Illumina?

They have some part of their spectrum in the invisible range, but we often don't see below 400nm, while Violet is defined as 380-450nm, which is also where the UV starts. I think they peak about 400nm and cover 390-420 nm.

I'd advise against buying the Red Auxiliary modules though, you wouldn't be able to use them at more than 5% or so or the whole tank will look reddish. Sure they are nice for sunrises and susnets, but there are tons of corals and other live stock that don't like the red. For example some of my BTAs shrink the moment the red rises. At the end I just left it on for 30 minutes every morning and evening and I'll probably get rid of it and get another RB or UV.

Just makes sure the loss of colour is not due to bleaching as light shock can cause this. What lights did you move from?

Hi guys. Just order 2ft SR260 fixture and want to ask your advise on AUX modules. How many and what type of modules you would recommend to install on 2ft fixture to get the best performance and colors. Any input or explanation would be great. Thx

Forget abt it

My old light is so bad no ones know about it is a led light that is the worst ever hade corals die cause it sucks man any way what u guys are saying I should lower the (w) but I want to my sps corals to grow fast.

As there are only 3 spots so there are not many choices:

Option 1: Get just one UV and install in the middle.

Option 2: Get two UV and install on the two sides, then if you want get a Red one in the middle.

I have a couple questions.

I have the 4ft Vertex module SR200, I have been running the Whites at 50% the Blues at 90% and the Royal Blues at 100%. I have the light 4 -6 inches over the tank

It is currently over a 60L x 24W x 30D (190 gal) tank. Is this to much light?

Does anyone care to share their settinsg files? Tank is mainly SPS.

In the next few months the light will be going over a 48L x 36W x 24D which should be way better.

It is not too much if you ask me, but your corals would tell you better than any of us :)

One UV in the middle, the other two- Royal Blues. IMO you don't need Red at all, and more than one UV on the 600mm fixture is an overkill.

Hi everyone.

I just joined the club from BRS's Black Friday Sale and I couldn't be any happier with my choice to go with the Illumina SR260.
Even though the fixture is hanging over my current upgrade build, I'm really excited to see the light in operation when my current tank transfers into the 120gal.

In doing a lot of research about the light and programming over the past week, I found this article. It's about a new module that many of you may want to read.
(You will need to change the website domain name to it's 'build' name.)

This may make your choice of adding other color modules a whole lot easier.

Or list it here:
It has 1x Warm White LED (Cree XTE) - about 3500K, 2x Red Cree XPE 625nm, 1x Green Cree XPE 520nm, 1x Seoul Semi 390nm UV, 1x 405nm Seoul Semi Violet, 2x Seoul Semi 420nm.

The new pad is a great addition and in my opinion it will replace the UV* and mostly the Red aux as it just gives more choices. On a side note the UV pads have more narrow but more powerful range so it is about personal choice.

I booked three to replace my UV and red modules, adding some green and warm white to the mix.

Something you might find interesting:
Since I'm building another tank and I have to stick to Radion XR30s (I broke one of them, so I had to get it and one thing lead to another) - the XR30w gen 1 looks to me really different from what I've gotten used to witth the SR360. The only upside is how they make better shadows (which is not actually better, but it is visually much more appealing) due to the tight beams. I'm still considering a move of the SR360 to the new tank as it is more suitable length, but I wish I got another Vertex unit instead of the XR30...

Has anyone on here played around with different color composition and intensity of this light fixture to manipulate SPS colors? At what intensity of blue, royal blue, white, red, etc. and for how long a photo period do you find most effective to bring out the most intense colors of sps corals assuming all water parameters are within optimum range?

Add me to another customer receiving poor customer service. I still own the Illumina and a Bubble King SM-250. Was hesitating about post this, but what the heck. For the cost of Vertex Illumina, they have terrible costumer service.

Took me over 2 months just to get a replacement part for the Vertex Illumina. Glad the whole light wasn't completely down, tank would have been long gone. Never offered just to replace the part, just kept on suggesting...try this, try that. After 3 or 4 times, finally I had enough. I had to asked, can I just get a replacement as I just purchased only about 3 months ago and tired of trying to make it work. Reply was, it is out of stock. Man it sucks.

I have a made in china Water Blaster pump that the outlet broken. Called Coralvue, no questions asked. Replacement was sent out right away and received in 2 days. Didn't even have to ask for a replacement.

If I were to purchase a brand new LED light today, I can tell you it would not be a Vertex Illumina. Customer service is just terrible. Proline Aquatics was who I dealt with.

LED Light still out....2 months later

LED Light still out....2 months later

I unfortunately have had the same issue.
I have a 400 gal tank with a 6ft & a 2ft fixture. 6ft - no complaints, 2ft has never worked properly since the day it came out of the box. Display panel stopped working week one. No replacements. Same reply - try a reset, try this, try that, we'll get back to you. So mad I bought these - every power surge/outage requires a reset even with a battery back up! We then go into preview mode with the light coming off/on all day stressing my fish out! Drama never ends with these - really wish I had never heard of these fixtures or spent the thousands of dollars to acquire them. Still waiting - months later, lot of coral loss & stress in fish. Totally unacceptable to me but alas no choice but to buy new units and throw out $6000.00 worth of fixtures...really!!!!!
