VHO only and LPS

Hello everyone. I tried to do a search on this and couldn't find a good answer so I thought I'd do a new message.

I currently have 330W of VHO and will only be doing leathers and LPS with the possibility of a low light clam down the road.

My tank is a 75 gallon. Should I add another 110w of VHO or is that too much?

MH is out of the question until next tank....next house.

Thanks for your help!

I have 440W VHO (4 110W bulbs- 2 actinic, 2 50/50) over my 120g and i keep all kinds of LPS with no problems. I run them with Icecap ballasts also. I don't know about a clam though, they might need more intesity even for the lower light species.

I agree, I don't recomend clams but I have mine since 2004 with these lights combination, before they were in a 55 with only 4 lights 3 40W NO and 1 110W actinic. I think the temperature of 6500K it's been my sucess with the clams and pretty much the rest of the corasl :)

My 46 gallon bow front is only 18" tall but I am only running 192watts of PC and I have a few LPS that are doing great. My candy canes are spliting and growing like crazy. I also have a piece of porites SPS which was a hitch hiker that is doing good. I have it at the top of the tank about 3 inches from the water surface. Its all about where in the tank you put the coral.

Good reflectors and ballasts are crucial. Keep the bulbs cool and keep reflectors and bulbs free of salt spray. Closer you get them to the surface the better as well. Replace bulbs every 6 months or so IMHO.
