Want to get a clam

My tank is 9 months old and seems to be doing well (nothing died yet!, parameters stable) I love the pics of all your clams and would like to get one. Just started researching requirements etc, so not quite ready yet. Any ideas on a good first clam? Tank is as follows:
90 Gallon (48 X18 X24)
5 - 6" DSB
110#LR
2- 175W 10k MH
2-110 VHO Super Actinic
2- 65W 50\50 PC

Any help at all would be appreciated, I would like something really colorfull of course. Love the look of Lebowskis Teardrop!!

Thanks

i think it is always good to start with a squamosa or a derasa just because they do not seem quite as hard to keep. both are hardy and look very cool. they are not as colorful as maximas or croceas but they are a great start

I've got basically the same setup, just got my first squamosa- even though they're not as colorful as maximas or croceas (sorry about any spelling errors) I think they're pretty cool in their own right.

I think you should go with the squammy or derasa as the ppl above mentioned. If you're "brave" enough, you can try a crocea or maxima.

Thanks all, I just ordered a Maxima from Clamsdirect, spoke with barry from them and he recommended this with the light I have. Very excited, hope it works out well. I will keep you updated.

So with your DSB you are about 18" from the top. I would place the clam up in the rock work for better lighting and out of strong currect. IMO

Nice looking clam.

Thanks Ron, that is what Cdirect told me. They did not tell me to keep it out of the current though, I am trying to come up with the perfect spot, I might have to meve something, How close to the top do you think it should be? I think I found a spot about 6" from the top (15" from lights) Thanks
